The Research Institute for Geo and Hydro Threats or shortly RIGHT at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana (UL FGG) was established at the end of 2014 as a research institute of the following chairs at UL FGG: Chair of Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering (KSH), Chair of Soil Mechanics (KMTal), Chair of Cartography, Photogrammetry, and Remote Sensing (KKFDZ), and Chair of Mathematical and Physical Geodesy, and Navigation (KMFGN).
The main goal of the RIGHT creation was to advance research activities of the chairs involved in the fields of geo and hydro threats: floods, droughts, torrents, snow avalanches, landslides and other types of mass movements such as debris flows or rock falls. The research activities should cover major parts of the risk management cycle, with the stress on the prevention part of the cycle. The idea was to connect existing expertise at UL FGG in the fields of hydrology, torrent control, landslide mitigation, soil mechanics, remote sensing, cartography, geodetic measurements, field experimental basins into a more coherent research unit being able to rise the interdisciplinarity among technical and natural sciences for reduction of geological and hydrological risks.
